Hospital Guidelines

Toys

  • Items must be new, unused and unopened. Items that are not new will be discarded

  • We cannot accept food for patients, items of a violent or religious nature, or items that are sharp or made of latex.

Cards

  • Craft supplies must not be excessive or fall off easily—this can pose health risks.

    • Test by running your finger over it; if little or nothing rubs off, it’s okay (especially for glitter).

  • Addressing the card: Do not use a child’s name.

  • Acceptable greetings: “Hey There,” “Hey You!,” or “To: a very special person.”

  • Writing the message: Avoid phrases like “Get well” or “Feel better.”

    • This is very important since some of the patients suffer from medical conditions that are chronic, life-long, progressive, and/or terminal.

Crocheted Items

  • Cleanliness:

    • All crocheted items must be freshly washed and free of dust, pet hair, or strong scents (no perfume or smoke).

    • Use hypoallergenic, fragrance-free detergent.

  • Materials:

    • Only use new, soft acrylic or cotton yarns—avoid wool or other animal fibers due to allergies.

    • Do not include any embellishments that can detach, such as buttons, beads, safety eyes, or sequins.

  • Safety:

    • Ensure all stitches are secure—no loose threads or stuffing should come out.

    • Avoid adding wire, plastic parts, or glued decorations.

    • Items must be free of pins, needles, or metal fasteners.
